I am always amazed at people’s creativity. Just when you think “it’s all been done”, someone comes along and does or creates something new and different.
Case in point
This is the case with one of our donors. Goldie Shulman began a wonderful, inspired business over ten years ago, which you’ll read about in a minute. But, spoiler alert, Goldie took that unique business to the next level by adding a crucial element to it: consistently donating a large portion of her profits to tzedaka l’ilui nishmas (in memory of) her brother. Goldie’s organization of choice? American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri, the Israeli charity that she knew would use 97% of her donations, ensuring needy families would get as much help as possible through her generosity.
Now, as promised, here’s a bit about Goldie’s wonderful business:
www.bestdressedbread.com. There, you can customize, easily,
beautiful products such as
challah dough covers (great idea!), aprons, home decor, baby gifts and other items.
I asked Goldie to tell us a bit about her company and her thoughts behind her tzedaka initiative.
How it began
“For years, when my recipe said: Cover dough with a cloth and set aside until doubled in bulk, I grabbed any clean kitchen towel for the job. One Friday, over a decade ago, I had a novel idea. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a cloth designed especially for this purpose? A pretty cloth draped over the bowl of rising dough on the kitchen counter would also add a touch of beauty to the uniquely women’s mitzvah of Challah baking. With time, love & labor, the Challah Dough Cover was born. When released, the Challah Dough Cover won the New-Product-of-the-Year award at Kosherfest.
Today, we are
www.BestDressedBread.com. We feature a growing gallery of fresh and evolving design options. Most exciting, because each dough cover is printed individually — especially for you, we can offer designs that you personalize yourself!”
Help feed families through baking challah
“Because we feel that our meals are not complete unless there is enough to go around, and in the true spirit of Challah, Best Dressed Bread has committed to donate (not just a 'small piece' but)
half of all our dough cover profits to American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri which helps those in need put bread on their tables too. For over ten years Best Dressed Bread has been privileged to help this vital cause.
The tzedaka is dedicated l'iluy nishmat my brother
Daniel Yitzchok A”H ben Yaakov Tzvi, who always dreamed of living in Eretz Yisrael himself. We chose to partner with American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri because we know that our donation goes directly to those who need it most.”
When you visit
www.BestDressedBread.com, you’ll notice Goldie’s expression, “Bake the world a better place”. With her creativity, drive and generosity, that is exactly what she is doing. And with each purchase you make (which helps American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri change lives for families in need), you’ll be doing that, too.
