I recently introduced you to one of Yad Eliezer's staff members, working behind the scenes to help people in need get the assistance they need. This week I'd like to tell you about one of our special donors: Chaya Malka Rosen,13, who recently sent us a generous contribution. It came from the maaser she took from her babysitting money! We were inspired by Chaya Malka's initiative and I asked her to tell me more about her decision to help Yad Eliezer, one of Israel's top Jewish charities, and how she learned about us. What she told me was equally inspiring...

“In January 2019 some of my family and I went to Israel to visit my brother who was learning in yeshiva. This was my first time in Israel. While we were planning our sightseeing excursions we realized that we wanted a chesed opportunity. Somewhere on the internet or in the tour books we borrowed from the library we stumbled onto Yad Eliezer. When we signed up to volunteer we didn't really know what they would have us do. First we watched a film and learned that Yad Eliezer is so much more than we thought it was. When it was our turn to get started they cranked up the music. We had a great time packing boxes of food for needy people in Israel, racing among ourselves to see which team could fit the most "extras" into the boxes at the end.

It had a huge impact on me when I realized that some people don't have the money to put food on their table.
But it's not just food, it's also shampoo and household items.

Volunteering at Yad Eliezer gave me a great feeling of satisfaction to know I was helping in whatever way I could. When I realized that I could help by donating my maaser from babysitting earnings even when I'm not in Israel I got very excited. I feel good when I help others. We are going back again this January, this time to visit my cousin who is learning in seminary. We already have our volunteer appointment at Yad Eliezer. It's definitely one of the highlights of the trip-doing chesed always is.”

We're really looking forward to welcoming Chaya Malka and her family back to the warehouse, and we thank her for her meaningful, valuable donation. It's beautiful to know that people of all different ages are out there, jumping at the opportunity to reach out and help families in need in different ways- and multiple times!
