American Friends of Yad Eliezer now partners with B'ezri
Ya’akov was basically a happy family man. He worked, spent time with his family, and was a regular donor to Yad Eliezer. But you never know where life will take you. When his 13 year old son had multiple recurring ear infections that caused medical complications and expensive interventions, family life became more challenging. Then Ya’akov himself experienced heart trouble which made it difficult for him to continue his regular work schedule. Three bypass surgeries did little to improve Ya’akov’s health.
When their daughter was then diagnosed with leukemia bad got worse. Due to medical complications she needs to have the chemo administered through a port in her spine. Her pain is unbearable, and the side effects of both the illness and the medications have serious ramifications. Ya’akov is no longer able to work due to his own medical condition and the needs of his sick children. He realized that the time had come to ask for help. He remembered feeling a part of the Yad Eliezer family as a donor, so he returned to ask for help in his time of need. Yad Eliezer gave him a donation to get through the immediate emergency and is in the process of making arrangements for ongoing help until the crisis passes.
One of the things that impresses me most about Yad Eliezer is the sense of family and a desire for mutual wellbeing. Walking around the office one cannot tell who is in charge, who is a donor, who is an employee, and who is a recipient. There is a camaraderie and unity in working to ease the burden of the poor that overlooks the boundaries that usually come up between people, even when a person crosses the line between being a donor and being a recipient. It an honor to be a part of that unity.
