Coming Soon....Yad Eliezer Purim Parade in Flatbush
Saturday, January 01, 2011
Imagine a stallion carrying a bearded man in a long, flowing royal robe. The horse is pulled by someone who looks an awful lot like Haman. Sounds like Shushan? How about Flatbush?
The annual Yad Eliezer Purim Parade has taken place every year since 1993. This year, “Mordechai” will ride through the streets of Brooklyn, New York on a horse kindly donated by Kensington Stables for the eighteenth year. Following the horse and rider will be a decorated musical car.
Neighbourhood children love participating in the parade. Costumed boys and girls carry baskets among the spectators on the busy streets to collect matanos l’evyonim for Yad Eliezer. The entire collected sum, counted immediately following the parade, is distributed to the poor of Israel on Purim itself.
Last year, over $6,000 was collected for the poor of Israel. We look forward to another sucessful Purim! Stay tuned for details....
