Families on Vacation Volunteer Packing Food Boxes
Thursday, August 08, 2019
The ache of hunger in poor homes never takes a break, but thankfully neither do our volunteers. At the height of summer vacation, our warehouse is as busy as ever, with individuals and groups of all kinds and from around the world, coming every day to pack food boxes with essentials for needy families.
One group was organized via an invitation over social media. Mrs. Henny Shor of Jerusalem wanted to take on a special initiative specifically during the Nine Days- to corral a group of like-minded families who wanted to give a bit of themselves and help the less fortunate, in the spirit of the week leading up to Tish'a B'Av. Henny says "I am home with my 5 year old daughter this month and want to do activities with her that are not only fun, but also meaningful. This week being the 9 days, I believe it is so important to strengthen our ahavat chinam, and what better way to do that than finding creative ways to volunteer?"
Why Yad Eliezer?
"The first time I volunteered at Yad Eliezer was 15 years ago when I was studying at Neve Yerushalayim. I was one of many girls who would go once a week to pack food boxes. I always felt amazing afterwards! It's a great workout for the neshama and the guf.
It has been a few years since I was there last, but I felt now that my daughter is big enough to help and understand the importance of feeding families in need, it was time to volunteer with her. Since I wanted it to also be a fun and exciting experience, I invited other families and friends to join us."
Henny had a fantastic turnout. Eight families (some of whom she had never met before!) and additional friends rolled up their sleeves and got to work. It didn't matter that some were strangers-everyone united, churning out box after box of food and products that will be eagerly and gratefully received by parents, children and individuals who rely on our help.
"Yad Eliezer does amazing work, and we are just grateful to have a tiny little piece in your tremendous chesed organization."
Henny and friends, we are grateful to kindhearted people like
you who reach out to help us and the families we serve. We couldn't do what we do without you!
