New appliances for an orphaned bride or groom bring incredible relief
Mazal tov, the engagement has been set!
A wedding is something a man or woman thinks about and dreams of, for years. And as the wedding date approaches, with so many details that need to be taken care of, a bride or groom counts on their mother and father to help them get ready. It should be one of the happiest times of their lives.
But when an impoverished bride or groom has lost one - or both - parents, the happiness is bittersweet. There will be an empty space on the walk down to the chuppah. There will be a void on the dance floor and at the seuda. And after the simcha, an orphan will be on their own to get adjusted, trying to set up a new home - something which is doubly hard without any kind of parental support - emotional or financial.
American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B'ezri's Appliance Packages for Orphans program helps yesomim and yesomos in need, by supplying them with brand new basic appliances: a refrigerator, oven and washing machine. Recipients get to choose the color of their appliances, too. This fund brings people practical help in building a new home, but it also provides them with a sense of normalcy and dignity, so the new couple can get excited about starting their married life together, ready to go - just like typical newlyweds. Tzedaka with recipients' self esteem in mind is always our priority. That's just one of the things that makes us a leading charity for Israel.
