Southern Israel: Chanuka Gift Distribution

The greatest chanuka gifts are those that bring light into dark places.



Only two weeks after missiles stopped falling in the south of Israel, routine has returned, but the horrible memories and constant fright from every sudden noise have not abated. Most of the world has forgotten about the children who sat huddled in bomb shelters, but not Miriam Grunhaus.



Miriam heard the news just like millions of others, but unlike the others, she decided to do something about it. Miriam turned to friends and community and combining their resources they provided a huge shipment of toys to the kids down south. While in some families chanuka presents are an unquestioned assumption, for the poor kids in Ofakim and Netivot, there is no expectation that they will receive gifts, it just isn’t part of their reality.



Yad Eliezer’s volunteers delivered the toys on the fourth night of Chanuka, and were deeply touched to see the responses to the gifts. The joy, surprise and gratitude were overwhelming!
