American Friends of Yad Eliezer now partners with B'ezri
It’s hard to believe, but the two year mark for the horrific Lag B’omer tragedy in Meron is upon us. Time passes quickly and, as is nature's way, other current events have gently pushed this story to the background of the general public's mind despite their genuine care and concern.
But the victims’ families, a priority at American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B'ezri since the morning following the tragedy, have never left our thoughts, and those thoughts have led to action. We began helping the 41 families in a wide variety of ways since that fateful night and we continue to do so to this day.
Our support includes monthly stipends for Almanos to help cover their families' requirements. Construction costs to adjust / expand parents' and in-laws' homes to accommodate new Almanos & their children.
We help families with Yom Tov support, alleviating expenses for the holidays, and provide funding for emotional therapies such as equine therapy, hydrotherapy and other forms of treatment for Almanos, Yesomim, parents, siblings, grandparents or any other family members who are struggling.
American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B'ezri sponsored a therapeutic retreat for all the families, including counseling sessions and activities for children at the Dead Sea and continually provides a wide range of critical necessities for the families from new glasses to dental expenses and anything in between.
The following letter, recently sent from an askan who helps two of the families specifically, describes an additional form of support we've provided for their difficult situations. Each family has a child who suffered brain damage as a result of the accident and are now completely disabled. They require nursing care, medical supplies and equipment, adaptations to make homes handicap accessible. Our Keren ensures there is long term help available for their many needs.
These forms of support for Meron families are critical and they are possible thanks to donors who continuously strive to bring tzedaka's relief where and when it's needed most.
Together, we will ensure the families are taken care of and certainly, not forgotten.
