Support Israeli families in need

Winter has been hitting Israel hard. Biting cold, strong, howling winds, rain and even snow in some cities are making the weather outside really difficult to bear. Going anywhere without a coat is unimaginable.

More than 9,000 miles away, a group of students has decided to take on a project to ensure that hundreds of kids now won't have to. 

Shira Weinroth and Chevie Gonter are 12th graders at Bais Yaakov Machon Ora in Passaic, New Jersey. Together with the other students at their school, they recently ran a unique campaign to raise money for poor children in Israel, in order to provide them with brand new, warm winter coats. 

Shira writes: 
We named the campaign “Share the Warmth,” representing the different levels of sharing. The money going towards the cost of the coats helped us spread warmth to needy children. Since the girls had an option of bringing in $18 for a full coat, or $9 for half a coat, our campaign facilitated “sharing the warmth.” Girls were able to ask their friends and neighbors to chip in to cover the cost of a half coat or more. In this way, even with small donations, we were able to raise enough money to cover the cost of 318 coats ($5,757)! We had a very competitive competition between each grade in our school. The staff came on board as well and it became a great competition. The greatest thing for us was knowing that every dollar helped a child stay a little warmer this winter. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to partake in this great mitzvah.
